Injuries can be painful and disturbing
Whether you are Sprinting or running a marathon or even if running for
fun, athletes always has to be careful as it can bring some unexpected painful
surprises. A small injury can break and stop from daily routine of running, but
neglecting the injury and continuing the run can cause even more severe
problems. Returning back to routine may depend upon the injury severity, but staying
away during this time may be very disturbing for an athlete.
Some of the common injuries during running are
1. Dehydration: If you start feeling dizzy, fatigue, headache then its
time to sip water or electrolyte and get rehydrated again. Drink ample of water
before, during and after run depending upon the run. Neglecting dehyradation symptoms
can cause severe issues.
2. Muscle pull: When a muscle is overstretched during running or
workouts, a popping sound , sensation can be fill .This happens when the muscle
tears. Generally Hamstrings, groin and calf are mostly affected by the muscle
pull.
3. Knee pain (Runners Knee): When we run, run; overrun, keep impacting
neglecting body signs then injury like runners knee can happen. During this
cartilage undergoes wear and tear leading to pain especially during up down on
stairs, workouts, or sitting with leg bent. Taking rest and applying ice can
reduce the pain.
4. Cramps: Muscle cramps can be sudden, painful. This happens when
muscle contracts. Self care and stretching exercise can make you relax during
this time. Proper hydration, warming up, slowing pace, relaxing can be helpful.
5. Blisters: foot rubbing on socks or inner material of shoe, sweat or
heat can cause blisters. Severe inflammation can stop you or slow down you
during run. To avoid these using good fit shoes, quick drying socks,
lubricating the foot can help to get rid of it.
6. Fractures: Small crack in bone or dislocation of bone can be very
painful and cause discomfort. Overrunning, impacting too hard on track or
pavement, wrong movement of leg (leg angle) can cause fractures. Seeking medical
treatment early is good step.
7. Ankle sprain: Twisting of leg is common injury that occurs during the
run. This happens when the ligament supporting the ankle is torn out or severely
stretched or we get imbalanced. Taking enough rest, applying ice pack, keeping
leg elevated can relax you.
